Linens And Lace
Fine linens and lace, regard
less of age, deserve tender treat
ment. Although nothing can stop
the natural aging process, certain
storage precautions can control
the damaging effects of light,
pollution, temperature and hu
midity.
Ideal storage conditions in
clude a light-free area with a
temperature of 70 degree F and a
humidity of about 50 percent.
Direct light, whether natural or
artificial, can cause fibers to
break down and fade. Low tem
peratures and high humidity cre
ate condensation, which
can yellow the fabric.
High temperatures and
low humidit'
create di
brittle fibers that even
tually crumble. Where
air pollution is a prob
lem, there is greater po-
