OWNERS, AUCTIONEERS AND
FAIRGROUNDS NOT RESPONSIBLE
“I remember when a man came to do our
taxes. He turned the doorknob to come in and
it fell off. He pulled out the chair at the table
and the back fell off. I had to reach up to a 4x4
on the ceiling to get electricity for his calcula
tor. He asked if he should come back another
time. I told him it would still be in repair then
too.”
Now, each room in the house has been au
thentically restored, from raised panel doors
hiding the kitchen dishwasher to custom-made
lighting designed to blend with the furnishings.
“I had the original window panes removed
and reset in the frames. Did you know that if
someone saw a crime through this type of win
dow glass, the testimony was thrown out in
court because the wiggly glass distorted things
too much?”
Janice also points to two primitive portraits
from the 1850 s. “The men in these portraits,
Bob Taylor and William Mann, are wearing
the same suits and their hands are positioned
the same. I’m told itinerant painters used to
have the suits already painted and then just
painted in the faces.”
Janice and Wilbur have painstakingly pre
served their family heirlooms for their four
children, who also love antiques. But Janice is
doing even more. “I started keeping a day
book since I retired seven years ago. I haven’t
missed a day yet. I’ve written down some fami
ly stories, but I want to record more.”

a retired electrician, always wanted to farm,
