Maryland’s $1 billion dairy in dustry will meet on Nov. 30 to outline two important new con cepts designed to help family dairy producers increase their profits and productivity. The Maryland Dairy Industry Asso ciation’s (MDIA) 2000 Annual Meeting features “A Team Ap proach to Family Dairying,” in addition to presenting a first “hands-on” computer training workshop to solve dairy problems through the National Dairy Infoßase. Both presentations are part of MDIA’s 2000 Annual Meeting, scheduled for Thurs day, Nov. 30, at Wil helm’s conference center on Md. Route 140, on the outskirts of Westminster, Mary land. Noted dairy experts Carl Theunis of Tine dale Farms, Kau kauna, Wisconsin, and Dr. William Heald of Penn State University team up to present a complete plan and demonstration on “A Team Approach to Family Dairying.” The innovative con cept involves two seg ments, family team and professional team. Progressive dairy pro ducer Carl Theunis will outline the family portion, while exten sion dairy specialist Dr. William Heald will present how the family dairy team is en hanced by profession als, such as nutritionists, veteri narians, bankers, and accountants. Pennsylvania will demonstrate the suc cessful concept, fol lowed by a keynote address by Carl Theunis on his vision of the nation’s dairy industry. Building on recent feature articles in leading dairy publi cations about his pas sion for family dairy farming, Theunis will outline a plan de signed to keep family dairy farming viable in Maryland. Extension dairy sci entists from the Uni versity of Maryland will open the MDIA 2000 Annual Meeting with a pre-confercnce “hands-on” com puter training workshop to enroll dairy producers in the National Dairy Infoßase. Par ticipants will register separately, and receive a CD-ROM contain ing over 2,000 publications spe cially designed to identify and solve dairy problems.
