Compared to last week: Steer and
heifer calves steady. Demand moderate
for calves. Feeder steers 2.00-4.00
higher. Feeder heifers not well tested,
near steady. Demand very good for feed
ers. Good rains throughout the state over
the weekend of 1 to 7 inches and contin
uing until Thursday. Wheat grazing
fields beginning to set up nicely although
a month later than normal. Last Friday’s
COF report indicated 9 percent less
cattle over 700 lbs placed into feedlots
compared to September a year ago. This
has stimulated the heavier feeders in
today’s market. Quality of feeder and
calf supply average. Weigh-ups average.
Flesh condition of feeders medium, sev
eral fleshy. Calves mostly unweancd or
short term weaned as is typical for the
season with the usual medium to fleshy
condition, few thin. Slaughter cows 1.00-
1.50 higher. Slaughter bulls .50 lower.
Demand fairly good and improved for
cows and bulls. Total of 300 cows and
bulls sold with 60 percent to packers. Re
ceipts this week 7825; last week 8147;
last year 12,590.
Supply consisted of 52 percent calves
and yearlings over 600 lbs; 44 percent
calves under 600 lbs; 4 percent cows and
bulls. Heifers comprised 41 percent of
feeder and calf supply.
Prices follow with weighted average
weight and price in parenthesis.
