At Big E Sheep Shows
WEST SPRINGFIELD,
Mass. Exhibitors from across
the Northeast were honored
here at the recent Eastern States
Expo (Big E).
Sheep exhibitors from New
Hampshire went home with
most of the top honors at the
Oxford sheep show.
Eric and Kelly Grace, Hills
boro, N.H., won the champion
ewe trophy with their first-place
junior ewe lamb. They also
swept both the premier exhibitor
and premier breeder banners.
Laurie Goodrich, Westmore
land, N.H., won the champion
ram honors with her first-place
intermediate ram lamb. Reserve
champion ram honors went to
Trista Badger, Pawlet, Vt., with
her second-place intermediate
ram lamb.
Reserve champion ewe trophy
went to Donna Quinn, Temple,
N.H., on her first-place junior
yearling ewe.
Rod Crome, Glen Arm, Md.,
judged the show, which featured
close to 50 entries from New
England and Pennsylvania.

Cheviot Sheep Show
Katherine Kuykendall, Rich
land Center, Wis., exhibited the
top two Cheviots in the Big E
Sheep Show at The Big E in
West Springfield, Mass.
The 10-year-old gained cham
pion ram and champion ewe
honors, competing against
others many times older than
herself.
Katherine, whose family has a
long history of showing Cheviot
sheep, had her mother, Sarah,
helping her out in the show ring.
Her grandfather, Henry, was
also on hand for the sheep show.
Lo-Ke Cheviots, Ken and
Laurie Moore, Rome, Pa., were
the winners of the reserve cham
pion ram and also the reserve
champion ewe. They also won
the premier breeder and premier
exhibitor banners.
The show was judged by Brad
Angs, Ottawa, 111.

award.
Bradley Hopkins North Scitu
ate, R. 1., won the grand cham
pion ewe with his junior
champion ewe. His father, Don
Hopkins, co-owned the reserve
grand champion ram with Kyle
Thayer.
Rod Crome, Glen Arm, Md.,
judged the show, which was one
of the largest during the first
week of sheep judging.

sheep.

show ring.
Peter Basque, Windham,
Maine, took home the premier
exhibitor banner and the awards
for champion ram and reserve
champion ewe.
Kuyendall Montadales, Rich
land Center, Wis., won the pre
mier breeder banner as well as
reserve champion ram and
champion ewe.

Suffolk Sheep
Suffolk sheep breeders from
around the Northeast exhibited
their sheep at the Big E in West
Springfield, Mass., making the
show one of the largest so far.
More than 120 sheep were ex
hibited in the show, which was
judged by Brad Angus, Ottawa
111.
Southfork Suffolks, Shel
burne, Vt., was one of the big
winners of the show. Dr. Hunt
ington Sheldon, who owns the
flock, took home the premier
breeder and premier exhibitor
banners. They showed 12 ani
mals in the show.
Grand champion ram honors
also went to Southfork Suffolks.
The»r intermediate ram lamb
was first named junior cham
pion ram, and the reserve junior
champion ram trophy went to
Little Village Farm, Andover,
Ct. Senior champion ram honors
went to Jamie Patten, Lempster,
N.H., and Ramblin’ Vewe Farm,
Gilford, N.H., took home the re
serve grand champion ram
award.
Darlene Leary, Oakham,
Mass., won the grand champion
ewe trophy; Lori Thayer,
Cummington, Mass., took home
the reserve grand champion ewe
award. Leary had first been
named senior champion ewe,
and Thayer’s had been reserve
senior champion ewe. Brenda
Jameson, Chester, Mass., was
awarded the junior champion
ewe award, and Southfork Suf
folks captured the reserve junior
champion ewe trophy.
