    Region One 4-H Horse Show
READING (Berks Co.) The
Region 1 4-H Horse Show was
held recently at the Berks Coun
ty 4-H Community Center in
Reading.
There were 190 competitors
from Berks, Bucks, Chester, Del
aware, Lehigh, Montgomery and
Northampton counties. The Eng
lish judge was Donna Martin
from Pottersville, New Jersey.
The Western judge was Bob
Spedden from Ellicott City, Mar
yland. The Trail judge was Sallie
Gregory, Cumberland County.
Below are the winners that will
advance on to the State 4-H
Horse Show in Harrisburg on
Oct. 27-29,2000.

Co.) Seventy-eight youth ex
hibited 133 animals at the 2000
roundup Aug. 22 in conjunction
with the Franklin County Fair.
Amy Haldeman, Greencastle,
exhibited the grand champion
Brown Swiss. The reserve grand
champion Brown Swiss was ex
hibited by Susan Hartman, St.
Thomas. The senior champion
and grand champion Guernsey
was exhibited by Timothy
Frantz, Waynesboro. Emily
Stuff, Mercersburg, exhibited the
junior champion and reserve
grand champion Guernsey. Re
serve junior champion Guernsey
honors went to Tobin Stuff, Mer
cersburg.
In the Jersey competition,
Logan Horst, Chambersburg, ex
hibited both the grand and re
serve grand champion project
animals. The junior champion
was shown by Jesse Kline, Way
nesboro, with reserve junior
champion honors going to Aaron

reserve grand champion award.
The grand champion Holstein
was exhibited by Emily Stuff,
Mercersburg. Alecia Martin,
Mercersburg, took reserve grand
champion honors. This junior
3-year-old was also thp best bred
and owned animal of the show.
The junior champion Holstein
was shown by Whitney Meyers,
Greencastle. Grant Meyers,
Greencastle, took reserve junior
champion honors.

HAPPENINGS
Long Acres in Carlisle was
once again the meeting place for
the July 26th Cumberland Coun
ty Light Horse and Pony Club
monthly meeting. Members of
the club enjoyed watching the
practice of the club’s drill team.
After the practice performance,
club leader, Sandy Long an
nounced that the drill team
would be the opening for the
Shippens
burg Fair
Horse Show.
Lori Morris, DVM, talked to
the club about wrapping horses’
legs. Dr. Morris also demonstrat
ed how to wrap the legs and al
lowed the members to try it
themselves. Some of the 4-H par
ents sold water at Founders Day
in Boiling Springs with the pro
ceeds to benefit the horse judging
team.
