Cheese Prices Collapse
MESHOPPEN (Wyoming
Co.) - According to Arden
Tewksbury, manager of the
Progressive Agriculture
Organization (Pro Ag), the value
of cheese traded on the Chicago
Mercantile Exchange on
Tuesday, Oct. 10, dropped to the
1978 level.
The cash price for cheese in
barrels was 99 cents per pound
and the price for cheese in 40-
pound blocks was $1.0550 per
pound.
According to sources at Dairy
Market News Service, these
wholesale cheese prices are the
lowest since 1978. Tewksbury
said, “Pro Ag and other organi
zations are mounting a blitz on
the United States Congress to
take immediate action to shore
up the falling milk prices to
dairy farmers.”
He said, “While the USDA
uses the NASS survey to deter
mine the value of manufactured

Pro Ag is working with
Congressman in several states
to ward off the lower anticipated
prices. Tewksbury said, “This is
not a Republican or a Democrat
issue. The issue is for Congress
to protect the sovereignty of
dairy farmers all across the
United States.”
Tewksbury said, “We are
stressing the need for all dairy
farmers and business people to
contact members of Congress
and urge them to support our
efforts.”
