VALLEY FORGE (Chester
Co.) This fall, historic Valley
Forge will serve as the site for
the Pennsylvania Association of
Conservation Districts (PACD)
/State Conservation Commis
sion (SCC) 53rd Joint Annual
Conference, hosted by the
Southeast Pennsylvania Associ
ation of Conservation Districts.
The conference, featuring the
Second Annual Conservation
Expo, will be anchored to the
theme “A Reflection on the Past
Before a 21st Century
Charge.” Activities open
Sunday, Oct. 29 and conclude
Wednesday, Nov. 1.
Featured speakers during the
conference include James M.
Seif, secretary of the Pennsylva
nia Department of Environmen
tal Protection, and Pulitzer Prize
winning author, Thomas
Hlyton. Seif will be the featured
speaker at the SCC luncheon,
Tuesday, Oct. 31. Hlyton,
author of “Save Our Land, Save

servation leaders and supporters
an excellent opportunity to
strengthen their networking
connections and their knowl
edge of conservation issues. In
addition, the Joint Annual Con
ference will host several unique
feature events, including a pres
entation/tour on deer manage
ment, a tour of urban best
management practices sites, and
the Conservation Expo.
This year’s conference also
places an increased emphasis on
providing training opportuni
ties. Workshop training sessions
on stormwater management,
watershed improvement proj
ects, GIS, PennDOT’s E&S Pro
gram, stream corridor
restoration and leadership de
velopment, to name a few, will
be offered during the event.

Gardens and visit the Bran
dywine Museum.
Conference participants are
invited to attend a tour of best
management practices for
stormwater management and
erosion and sedimentation con
trol, encouraged by the South
east Conservation Districts. The
tour follows the PACD Execu
tive Council Session on the final
day of conference activities. Par
ticipants will examine a super
silt fence, a skimmer, porous
paving, storm basin retrofit and
wetland treatment systems
while touring three separate
