ANSWER A reader wrote that she and many other seamstresses often have difficulty discerning the right and wrong sides of fabric. She wanted to know if the holes along the edge of the fabric are punched from the right or wrong side or if that varies and is not a clear indicator. Thanks to a Kinzers reader who wrote that the holes along the edge are not a determining factor in revealing the right side of fabric. Instead, take a hold of the width on a straight edge, placing thumbs and forefingers about 2 or 3 inches apart, pull slightly. Which ever side the fabric curls to indicates the wrong side. If it doesn’t curl, there is no differ ence between the wrong and right side. But al ways mark the inside of the fabric so the fin ished piece has an even look. Thanks to Amos Beiler, Quarryvllle, who writes that he is not a professional at rais ing nightcrawlers, but he always has a great abundance found in a bin of leaves on his farm. To make a bin, set up a fence among trees in the woods, using chicken wire. Every fall, fill the bin with leaves. The following summer, use the leaves for composting and find hundreds of earthworms.
