Megan’s black wool pant’s
suit was accessorized with a
tartan scarf that Megan made.
The St. Lawrence tartan symbol
izes Megan’s hometown; the
blue represents the St. Lawrence
river, the green is for evergreens,
and the red is for sunsets.
For eight years, Megan, 12,
has competed at the Jefferson
County Fair, where she has won
awards for super junior show
manship, grand champion Suf
folk ewe and flock. She
demonstrates halter and show
ing techniques to younger 4-H
members.
At Thousand Islands Middle
School, Megan is on the princi
ple’s honor roll, a member of
band and student council, and
plays soccer, basketball, and
softball.
Alice, dressed in a red wool
jumper and red wool cowgirl
haj, attracted attention by lead
ing a Corriedale yearling ewe
outfitted with a saddle and car
rying Alice’s doll dressed in a
matching outfit.
The 11-year-old is in her third
year of sheep club and is secre
tary of the club.
Alice is homeschooled and is
active in church and community
activities.
Junior division winners in
cluded first-place Lindsey
Beatty, Enon Valley; second
place Courtney Cowden, Pros
perity; and third-place Katelyn
Melvin, Washington, Ohio.
Contestants such as Kelly Gehman, Quakertown, made
an attractive appearance even if they did not place in the
top three.

Lindsey wore a sage green
plaid, cropped jacket on top of a
solid green wool dress.
The 10-year-old led Vanna, a
Polled Dorset yearling ewe.
Lindsey is a member of the
Animal House 4-H Club and
enjoys showing registered Polled
Dorsets and market lambs. She
is in fifth grade at Mohawk Ele
mentary School, where she
enjoys cheerleading and choir.
She is also active in church and
4-H activities.
Ten-year-old Courtney,
dressed in heather wool pants
with a brown and mauve plaid
wool vest, led a Dorset ewe, Eliz
abeth, which sported a matching
wool sash.
Courtney is active in 4-H and
shows Dorsets at local and state
levels. She is a fifth grader at
McGuffey Intermediate School
and enjoys playing piano.
Katelyn modeled a wool two
piece outfit. The heather gray
skirt was topped with a mus
tard-colored wool blazer. The
10-year-old led a Montadale
ewe.
Katelyn is a member of the
National and Ohio Montadale
Junior Association and shows at
local, state, and national levels
since she was three years *ofd.
This year she showed at the All
American Junior Show in
Franklin, Ind.
Katelyn is a member of Coun
try Clovers 4-H Club and is in
fifth grade at Eastside Elemen
tary.
