“Once again, growers and
leaders attending Commod
ity Classic profited from their
experience,” said NCGA
President Lynn Jensen of
Lake Preston, S.D. “They not
only gathered information
that will improve their opera
tions, but had a good time in
the process.”
Some of the highlights of
this year’s Commodity Clas

• A speech by U.S. Agri

Glickman noted that as an
emerging superpower, China
has tremendous growth po
tential for U.S. trade. “Our
markets are already wide
open to China, giving us a
five-to-one trade deficit,” he
said. “All the concessions are
on their side. We have noth
ing to lose and everything to
gain by passing NTR and al
lowing China into the WTO
(World Trade Organiza

Corn Congress delegates
focused on the future when
they met during the Com

policy for the year. A total of
122 delegates, representing
23 states, adopted a vision
statement to guide delibera
tions on federal farm pro
grams in the 2002 farm bill
and beyond. It directs NCGA
to “evaluate and support
farm policy that will ensure
that America’s farmers are
globally competitive, market
responsive, and environmen
tally responsible, and that
provides producers with
access to world markets,
access to capital, access to
advances of technology, and
risk management, in a sus
tainable and environmentally
sound manner.” In addition,
delegates voted to oppose any
decrease in the marketing as
sistance loan rate for corn
and they voted that the
USDA should set the posted
county price as the average of
the two adjusted terminal
prices for the county.
