Notebook
Ida Risser
It’s hard to believe that it is al
most October. The last of the
summer picnics have been held.
In one case, another lady and I
were put in charge of the pro
gram. Instead of getting expen
sive entertainment, we decided
to be the program ourselves. We
both spoke on our interests and
hobbies and illustrated them too.
Our classmates seemed to enjoy
the program.
Ilie tall green corn is gradu
ally disappearing from the fields
as the silos are filled. One piece
of equipment cut and chopped
six rows at a time or three acres
in an hour. With bare fields, it
will certainly seem like fall. Now
our four resident deer will have
to find a new home and new
food although there are still
plenty of woods for them to hide
in.
My husband told me that he
really likes bananas and so when
Mountain 4-H Club was Aug. 26
at Mrs. Bushongs house for 4-H
roundup.
Roundup started at 1 p.m.
Games played were badminton,
hula-hoop contests, jump roping
contests, water balloons, and
three-legged races.
Dinner was served at 5:30 p.m.
Before dinner, awards were pres
ented to club members and to the
officers.
North Mountain 4-H Club’s
new fall projects are air riflery,
Adopt-A-Tree, backyard poultry,
cake decorating, crafts, dog obe
dience, entomology, old tractor
restoration, vet science, wildlife,
and woodworking. For commu
nity service projects, the club is
still collecting soda tabs to give to
the Ronald McDonald House.

bought them. What to do with
25 ripe bananas? First I gave the
grandchildren each a bag to take
home. Then we put them on our
breakfast cereal. And, finally, I
had to make two pans of banana

years and I had forgotten how it
looked.
Oh yes, I must mention the
fact that we have a new grand
