    KILE Selects PL A Youth Awards
HARRISBURG (Dauphin
Co.) The Pennsylvania
Livestock Association (PLA)
has recognized outstanding
4-H and FFA youth for the
past 24 years, selected from a
field of candidates submitted
by county extension personnel
and vocational agriculture
teachers throughout the com
monwealth.
The male FFA Youth
Award recipient this year is
Douglas N. Wolf, son of Wil
liam and Jean Wolf of Mif
flinburg. Doug was a member
of the Mifflinburg Area High
School FFA for four years.
His projects included steer,
lambs, hogs, and goats. He grad
uated from high school last
spring and is employed by Weis
Markets as a diesel mechanic, as
well as being an apprentice auc
tioneer. His record indicates that
he has received many honors for
his excellent record keeping abili
ties as well as awards for his
market animals.
Jennifer Whitman is the fe
male FFA Youth Award recipi
ent. Jennifer is the daughter of
Michael and Paula Whitman,
Carlisle. Jennifer graduated this
spring from the Cumberland
Valley High School in Meehan-

Jessica Darr
icsburg. She was an FFA mem
ber for the past four years. She
has carried projects in beef,
sheep, swine, and goats. At the
present time, she is serving as
state FFA officer. Her future'
plans include the armed services.
Very active in high school, she
has received her Keystone De
gree as well as being active in her
community, her church, and the
William Grove Historical Steam
Engine Association.
The Outstanding 4-H girl is
Jessica Darr of Somerset. She is

the daughter of Scott and Susan
Darr. A Somerset 4-H’er for the
past 10 years, she has shown
horses, swine, and sheep. Very
active in her 4-H club, she has
served in nearly every office. In
her community, Jessica was very
involved with the Pennsylvania
Winter Special Olympics and
was recognized for more than
100 hours of service. This sum
mer she has been employed at
the Gap and is enrolled at Penn
State University this fall, major
ing in marketing and interna
tional business.

Honors for the 4-H boy goes to
Joseph Emenheiser, son of Ben
and Sharon Emenheiser, Felton.
Joe is in his senior year at Red
Lion High School, York County.
He has been a 4-H member for
eight years. His major project has
been market and breeding sheep.
He has a flock of 45 head. As a
member of the 4-H livestock
judging team a couple of years
ago, Joe helped his team place
first in the state and represented
Pennsylvania at the Louisville
show. His community involve-

very active in his local church.

These young people will be
recognized at the Keystone Inter
national Livestock Exposition
(KILE) opening ceremony in the
Small Arena of the Farm Show
Complex Thursday, Oct. 5, at 4
p.m. They will receive a plaque
and a monetary award.
