National Stockyards Oklahoma City, OK Wed., Sept 27,2000 Report Supplied By USDA Oklahoma National Stockyards - Weekly Cattle Summary Compared to last week: Feeder cattle 1.00-2.00 higher with good demand. Yearling cattle over 750 lbs in tight supply. Steer calves steady, heifer calves steady to 2.00 lower. Demand good for steer calves, light for heifer calves. Rains over the weekend of 1-3 inches in south central and parts of eastern Oklahoma gave some impetus to calf market. How ever major wheat producing and grazing areas still stone dry which kept enough calf market pressure to limit better demand to steer calves only. Weigh-ups improved and mostly average. Flesh condition of feeders thin to medium, however large string fleshy. Quality of calf supply average but fleshy. Quality of yearlings average. Slaughter cows steady to 1.00 lower. Slaughter bulls .50-1.00 higher. Packer demand light with many cows returned to country. Total of 565 cows and bulls sold with 42 percent to packers. Receipts this week 8838; last week 9184; last year 9324. Supply consisted of 53% yearlings and calves over 600 lbs; 41% calves under 600 lbs; 6% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 36% of feeder and calf supply. Prices follow with weighted average weight and price in parenthesis.
