Weekly Cattle Summary Compared to
last week: Feeder steers 600-800 lbs firm;
over 800 ibs 1.00 lower. Feeder heifers
steady. Steer and heifer calves steady.
Demand good for mid weight year
lings, moderate for heavy weights. Light
demand for smaller calves suitable for
early wheat pasture as grazing prospects
looking bleak at the moment. General
rain is needed and prospects for rain are
nil. Demand good for larger calves
which have been destined to feedlots.
Quality plain to average. Weigh-ups av
erage to full. Yearlings in slightly thin to
moderate flesh, mostly medium. Calves
in mostly fleshy condition, few thin.
Slaughter cows and bulls steady to 1.00
lower. Packer demand moderate. Total
of 475 cows and bulls sold with 46 per
cent to packers. Receipts this week 9184;
last week 10.645; last year 10,681.
Supply consisted of 67% yearlings
over 600 ibs; 28% calves under 600 Ibs;
5% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised
34% of feeder and calf supply.
