pion Holstein honors went to Justin Ulmer, Linden. Left

selected to attend the Pennsylva
nia Council of Agriculture Coop
eratives Summer Institute
(PCC).
Troy spent four days at Ship
pensburg University learning
how to run a business in the form
of a cooperative. Emphasis was
placed on leadership develop
ment and skills necessary to op
erate a business.
Activities during the week in
cluded forming a cooperative
and selling its products to other
students, leading general ses
sions, Variety Show, Viewpoint
public speaking about agricul
ture topics, daily newspaper,

Fifteen Manheim FFA mem
bers competed in eight different
Career Development Events
(CDE) June 13-15 at Pennsylva
nia FFA Activities Week in State
College.
They were among 1,500 top
agriculture students from across
Pennsylvania to compete at this
annual event. The Pennsylvania
FFA Foundation provides the
funding for the award winners.

culture teachers, and Penn State
Cooperative Education staff.
Troy’s involvement in many of
the PCC activities and his fami
ly’s dairy farm commitment to
marketing their milk through
Land O Lakes Cooperative
earned him a trip to the National
Institute of Cooperative Educa
tion (NICE) in Nashville, Tenn.
Troy was one of only 13 students
selected to attend NICE. Stu
dents from across the U.S. meet
to learn about the business of co
operatives. Tours of agriculture
sites in the Nashville area were
conducted.
Lori Hockenberry was recog
nized as the state winner with
the Horse Proficiency Award.
Lori was then named a gold
medal winner on the national
level.
Casey Livengood and Ryan
Eberly comprised the first place
small gas engines team. Each
team member received $lOO. In
addition, Casey received a
plaque for being the first place
individual in the CDE.
Ryan Garber was the second
place individual in the tractor
driving CDE.
Dustin Geib, Troy Wenger,
Dustin Musser, and Jordan
Wolgemuth were the third place
ag mechanics team in a close
placing competition.
The Manheim FFA chapter
placed third in the chapter scrap
book competition. Michelle Wet
zel, Manheim FFA alumni, over
saw the assembly of this year’s
scrapbook.
