Hinkelfest Is Sept.
FREDERICKSBURG (Leba
non Co.) The tenth annual
Hinkelfest will be held Sept. 15,
16 and 17. Located off Route 22
west of Fredericksburg, at the
Farmer’s Pride Airport, Hinkel
fest is a chicken and egg festival
that benefits local community or
ganizations including the Freder
icksburg Fire Company, Library,
Community Association, Lion’s
Club, and American Legion.
Since 1991, more than $125,000
has been raised for these commu
nity services as families enjoy
Hinkelfest’s “Eggs n’ Wings n’
Chicken Things.”
During this annual food festi
val, chicken is served a variety of
ways from chicken pot pie, soup,
burgers, to chicken wings and
more. From 11 a.m. Saturday
enjoy Chicken Bar-B-Que under
the Big Top. Sunday, events
open with a special open air wor
ship service and the “Super Egg
Breakfast Buffet” from 8 a.m. to
10:30 a.m. Enjoy a filled chicken
breast dinner starting at 11 a.m.
There will be chicken cooking
demonstrations throughout the
weekend, too.
The entertainment begins with
“Hearts Afire” performing con
certs at 6:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. Fri
day, September 17. Also on Fri
day night, enjoy “Burning
House” at 7:45 p.m. and 9:45
p.m. Satur
day, enjoy
the sounds
of “Second
Edition” as
they per
form at 1:15
p.m., 2:45 p.m., and 7 p.m. fol
lowed by “Country Legend” en
tertaining at 4:15 p.m. and 8:30
p.m. Also featured on Saturday
is “Johnny Counterfit,” with per
formances at 5:30 p.m. and 9:45
p.m. Sunday afternoon “Covert
Action” will get things rolling at
12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., with “The
Mahoney Brothers” giving per
formances at 1:45 p.m. and 4:15
p.m.
Shows are all free and open to
the public. Bring your lawn
chairs or blankets.
The Hinkelfest 5K Run will be
held again this year, Saturday,
September 16 at 10 a.m. Tro
phies will be awarded to the top
three overall male and female
runners, as well as the top three
winners in each age category.
Each registered runner will also
receive an exclusive Hinkelfest
5K Run T-shirt.
Sure to draw a crowd is the all
new Hinkelfest Classic Car
Show, Sunday the 17 from noon
to 5 p.m. All classic cars are wel
come, with preregistration en
couraged but not required. Also
Sunday, at 1 p.m., will be a
Model Aircraft Flying Demon
stration.
Rides for the children, games,
and a hot air balloon launch
round out the weekend’s activi
ties along with the annual craft
show on Saturday from 9 a.m. to
7 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5
p.m.

Innovative Childcare Workshops
Offered From Penn State
SCRANTON, (Lackawanna Co.) Interested
in learning new innovative ways to care for chil
dren?
Whether you are a childcare professional, or
care for children in your home, or are simply in
terested in learning new ideas with children,
plan on attending Penn State Cooperative Ex
tension’s childcare workshops. Thirteen child
care workshops will be offered in the upcoming
year.
Nationally known childcare expert, Dr. James
Van Horn, will present eight programs via satel
lite from Penn State University. Topics include
woodworking with children, fun snack ideas and
healthy lunches, hot topics for center directors,
biting and sharing issues, pets in childcare, plan
ning your childcare program activities, celebrat
ing diversity in the classroom, and backyard sci
ence activities.
Lackawanna County Cooperative Extension is
also offering five additional workshops, which
include hands-on activities. The topics are inno
vative dance and music activities including yoga
for kids; infectious diseases; first aid training;
creative art ideas for anytime; and school aged
activities.
Child care professionals will receive credits
from the Department of Public Welfare, hand
out materials, refreshments, and interesting,
topic related door prizes at each workshop. Cost
of each workshop is $4 and is payable at the time

LEESPORT (Berks Co ) “Home, Heart, and Hol
iday Traditions” is the name for the upcoming Berks
County extension holiday program.
The annual program features holiday foods, gift
giving ideas, safety in home and car, suggestions for
decorating your home, and a luncheon buffet.
The program is repeated on two days, Nov. 7 and
Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m, at 'he Berks County
4-H Community Center. Leesport.
Tickets are $l2. which includes the buflel, and
must be purchased in advance. Admission is limited.
