Chicago Mercantile Exchange
remained relatively stable this
week Block prices traded
between $1.28 and $1.2850 per
pound. Barrel pne actually
improved this week, rising from
$lO6 per pound on Monday,
August 14 to $1 09 by Friday,
August 18. USDA reported that
spot availability of cheese this
week remains high However,
schools are opening soon and that
will draw milk away from
manufacturing uses Also, milk
buyers in the Southeast are
importing increasing volumes of
milk to fill their growing fluid
demand
Finally some good news
USDA announced this week they
are going to adjust the purchase
prices for butter and cheese under
the dairy price support program
They are doing this to reflect
changes in make allowances
under federal order reform As a
result, the purchase price of
cheese will rise 2.2 cents per
pound, and the purchase price of
butter will rise 1 8 cents

vative program to enhance agri
cultural productivity and allevi
ate hunger in Central and
Eastern Europe and Central
Asia.
The program kicked off dur
ing the Rotary International Ag
ricultural Summit in conjunction
with Penn State’s Ag Progress
Days exposition, Aug. 15-17.
The summit brought together
Rotarians, government officials,
and agricultural university repre
sentatives from Pennsylvania
and the countries of Estonia, Ka
zakhstan, Lithuania, Russia, and

national visitors were scheduled
to tour agricultural sites of local
