Weekly Cattle Summary Compared to
last week: Feeder steers and heifers 1.00-
3.00 lower.
Steer and heifer calves 2.00 lower with
light weight calves up to 8.00 lower.
Demand moderate for all classes. Re
ceipts slightly larger than expected as
hot dry conditions has dried pastures
and cattle are running out of grass. Hot
weather also played a role in the lighter
calf demand this week. Quality plain to
average. Weigh-ups average to mostly
full. Flesh conditions slightly thin to
fleshy. Slaughter cows steady. Slaughter
bulls 1.00 higher. Packer demand mod
erate to good. Demand good for replace
ment cows and pairs. Total of 400 cows
and bulls sold with 45 percent to pack
ers.
Receipts this week 10,475; last week
6,660; last year 9,593.
Supply consisted of 71% yearlings
over 600 lbs; 25% calves under 600 lbs;
4% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised
38% of feeder & calf supply.
