Weekly Cattle Summary
Compared to last week: Feeder steers
and heifers steady to 1.00 higher.
Demand good for feeders and an im
provement over last week. A bright spo
hit late last week with 2 days of positiv
trading on the futures board. With De
cember live cattle at 70.60 feeder cattle
are now back to a more workable
breakeven. Boxed beef prices also turned
around to the plus side with better move
ment. Steer and heifer calves steady to
2.00 lower in a light test. Demand mod
erate for calves as we are now truly in
the dog days of summer after 5 days of
100 degree temps. Quality plain to aver
age with several thin Brahman cattle in
supply. Feeders in thin to medium flesh,
few fleshy. Weigh-ups average to lull.
Slaugther cows and bulls 1.00 lower.
Packer demand moderate. Total of 270
cows and bulls sold with S 3 percent
going to packers.
Receipts this 8435; last week 7940; last
year 7811.
Supply consisted of 71% yearlings
over 600 lbs; 26% calves under 600 lbs;
3% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised
29% of feeder & calf supply.
