Western prices managed to hold steady
this past week at 64.00-64.50 live and
mostly 102.00 dressed. Demand was re
markably good for Holstein steers and
they closed steady to .50 higher. Slaugh
ter cows ended the week mostly steady,
after trading slightly lower on Tuesday.
Slaughter bulls finished 1.00 higher.
Supply included 37 percent slaughter
steers, 5 percent slaughter heifers, 44

CALVES: Compared to last week,
lightweight vealers for immediate
slaughter turned very active late in the
week and closed mostly 15.00 higher.
Slaughter calves ended the week 5.00
higher. Demand was good for Holstein
bulls returning to feed and the market
was steady to 15.00 higher. Orders for
Hoi- stein heifers increased dramatically
and prices closed 15.00-20.00 higher
amid active trading.
