CATTLE: Compared to Thursday’s
sharply lower market, a very light test of
slaughter steers and Holstein steers were
steady. A fairly run of slaughter heifers
sold firm. Slaughter cows were not well
tested. Slaughter bulls were fully steady.
Supply included 19 percent slaughter
steers and 15 percent slaughter cows.

CATTLE; Compared to Thursday’s
sharply lower market, a very light test of
slaughter steers sold mostly steady. The
market is still depressed, but offerings
were light enough to spark some
strength on the fancier cattle.
Holstein steers and slaughter heifers
were not well tested. Slaughter cows sold
weak to 1.00 lower, while slaughter bulls
sold steady to firm. Supply included 36
percent slaughter steers and 55 percent
slaughter cows.

CATTLE: Compared to Tuesday,
slaughter steers sold .50-1.00 lower.
Kosher demand was light, resulting in
small premiums for the top quality
cattle. Considering the down market,
weights were surprisingly light with nu
merous lots of two-way cattle. Holstein
steers were active and traded steady to
.50 higher, while slaughter heifers were
only lightly tested. The Slaughter cows
sold .50-1.00 higher to end the week
mostly steady. Slaughter bulls were 1.00
higher. Supply included 40 percent
slaughter steers and 40 percent cows.

with good demand from new interests.
The larger slaughter calves traded firm
to 5.00 higher. Demand was good for
Holstein bulls returning to special-fed
veal barns with prices trending 15.00-
30.00 higher. Trading turned very active
for Holstein heifers with prices as much
as 50.00 higher and reaching levels not
seen for quite some time. Supply in
cluded 472 in the State graded sale and
around 89 percent returned to feed.

CATTLE; Compared to last week’s
closing prices, slaughter steers and heif
ers closed .50-1.00 lower. Receipts were
light this week as farmers were reluctant
to market their cattle following last
week’s sharply lower prices. Despite the
smaller offerings, prices continued to fall
with very light demand from the area
Kosher packers (who usually drive the
market). The biggest mystery in the
week’s trade was the unusually large
number of light cattle that were sold. A
good portion of the supply weighed
under 1200 lbs, which is hard to under-
