The market re fuses to find any stability and luckily local finished cattle supplies have been light, or else prices could slump even lower. Dressed beef values continue to hold around the 113.00 level with good movement, but Western feeders have gotten into bind by putting off the selling of their showlists for the past several weeks. Packers now have the leverage, which could lengthen this market slump. Feedlots refused lower bids again this week with only a few sales reported in Nebraska by Friday morning from 65.00-65.50 live and mostly 104.00 dressed. Some cash corn bids are as low as 1.40 per bushel in the Midwest, but the gloomy fat cattle market has finally brought on the first sign of weakness in Western feeder cattle prices. Local Holstein steers managed to trade steady this week with good demand. Slaughter cows sold 1.00 higher, but slaughter bulls continue to back off of their highs and closed 1.00- 1.50 lower. Supply included 40 pet slaughter steers, 5 pet slaughter heifers, 43 pet slaughter cows, 5 pet slaughter bulls, with the balance mostly feeders.
