Mike Tierney
18-year-old Mike Tierney of Upper Makefield farms this 65-acre
farm, which has been in his family since 1943. He milks 12 Jersey cows
and has three heifers. One of the cows holds the state record for Jer
seys in milk production at 36,107 pounds with 4.8 percent fat and 3.8
percent protein. Mike grazes his herd and feeds them a pelleted feed,
which he and his father, a veterinarian, formulated using all-natural
feeds. The milk is sold on farm through a raw milk license as milk, ice
cream, cheese, butter, and pudding.
