QUESTION - Robert Shaub, 350 W. Railroad
Ave., Shrewsbury, PA 17361, needs a top to an
old parlor organ, style 100, which was manu
factured in York by the Everhart Organ and
Piano Co. The organ was purchased by Shaub’s
grandfather in 1906 for $6O on a note payable
in two years at no interest. After being around
the country for 94 years, the top was lost, but
the bottom part is back in the family. Shaub
would like to restore it with a top to match the
original one.

wants to know where to find instructions on
making baskets from birch bark.
ANSWER Charlotte Lippincott, Pilesgrove,
N.J., wanted to know how to start Royal Paulo
wina trees with purple flowers. She had picked
up some seed pods last winter. Thanks to Ver
tis Bream, Aspers, who writes that Paulowinia
seed pods contain hundreds of tiny seeds that
resemble tomato seeds. The seeds should be
treated like tomato seeds. Sprinkle them.over
sterile soil in a tray and lightly cover with a
light layer of medium peat, or thin layer of fine
sand, or thin layer of potting soil. Keep moist.
Misting works best. You can also cover the tray
with plastic film to retain moisture by allowing
an air space between the film and growing me
dium. The tiny seedlings are very fragile and
suculent.
Transplant to pots. Allow to grow
8-12-inches high. Harden off and transplant on
a cloudy, damp day. Provide shade for a week
or two. Never let them dry out. Provide wind
