Weather has been the market maker
for the past month, rains and lower
prices. Bearish USDA Report in the
headlines today. Boards made lower ad
justments but posted a strong late rally,
especially soybeans. Wheat 1 to 3 cents
lower, except Portland 6 cents lower.
Corn steady to 1 cent higher Sorghum
uneven, 4 cents lower to 3 cents higher.
Soybeans 5 to 12 cents higher.
USDA estimated all wheat production
down 3 percent but the big surprise was
hard red winter wheat down 6 percent

Lancaster Farming, Saturday, July IS, 2000-AS
but soft red winter wheat up 4 percent.
Bottom line projected price unchanged
at 2.50.
U.S. corn production estimated for
this year increased and on top of 10 mil
lion bushel. Projected usage increase but
carryout took a big jump. Lots of corn in
supply channels and pipelines expected
to remain full. Harvest 2 to 3 months
down the road but already concerns
about storage space. Bottom line average
price guess down 10 cents at 1 70.
Soybeans strong point was a sharp re
duction in carryms. However, produc
tion numbers were increased. The
bottom line average price guesses
dropped 25 cents to 4.40. Nice soybean
export announcement today.
