    Melinda Wolfe Of Northumberland
Crowned SUN Area Dairy Princess
MILTON (Northumberland
Co.) Melinda Wolfe, daughter
of Dean and Rinda Wolfe from
Milton was crowned the 2000
SUN Area Dairy Princess by
1999 SUN Area Dairy Princess
Jennifer McWilliams.
Sara Erdley, daughter of Mike
and Faith Erdley from
Lewisburg, and Selena Hollen
bach, daughter of Scott and
Sandy Hollenbach from Middle
burg, were named the SUN Area
dairy princess alternates.
The pageant was held Satur
day evening June 24 at the Sus
quehanna Valley Mall in Hum
mels Wharf. “SUN” Area
includes Snyder, Union, North
umberland, and Montour coun
ties. The Boscov store in the Sus
quehanna Valley Mall sponsored
Ag Dairy Days, with the help of
the SUN Area Dairy Princess
Promotion Committee and local
businesses.
The pageant began with Dawn
Marie of Big Country Radio and
Jane Hawn, public relations
manager with Boscov’s serving
as the Mistresses of Ceremonies.
This year 11 dairy maids: Victo
ria Adams, Janelle Ewing, Brit
tany Fry, Raquel Hauck, Valerie

Days was filled with fun and ex
citement for all ages. On June 22,
there was an Agriculture Busi
ness Appreciation Ceremony
sponsored by Boscov’s. Local
businesses that support the dairy
industry were honored. Sunny
side 4-H Dairy Club sold milk
shakes to the public. Samples of
different flavors of cheese were
also served to the public. Cheese
was donated by U.S. Food Serv
ice, Fetter's Meat Market, Green
Ridge Country Market, Fairview
Country, Ard’s Farm Market,
Byerly Brothers Meats, and
Reinharts.
On June 23, a seven-foot tall
giant ice cream sundae was built
in the Boscov’s Court. Turkey
Hill Dairies of Conestoga furn
ished 135 gallons of premium va
nilla ice cream, 10 gallons of
chocolate sauce, 25 pounds of pe
cans, and five gallons of straw
berries. SYSCO provided the
paper products for the evening
event. Contestants, FFA mem
bers from Middleburg, Mifflin
burg, Selinsgrove, and West
Snyder High Schools, dairy
maids, dairy misses, and the
SUN Area Dairy Princess Com
mittee dipped and served the

On June 24, the public got the
opportunity to have their picture
taken with a calf. This event was
sponsored by the North-Mont
4-H Club. A “Celebrity cow
milking contest” was held with
volunteer cow milkers from local
businesses. The Pennsylvania
Holstein Association gave out
Dairy Misses from left front, Makenzie Walters, Hailey
Shirey, Cheryl Pfleegor, Tiffany Adams, Emily Weller and
Tanya Rice. Middle row are Elizabeth Heckert, Dawn
Heimbach, Amanda Hauck, and Kasee Ewing. Back row
are Jonelle Wetzel, Marissa Ewing, Katy Heimbach, Dan
ielle Ewing, Lindsay Heckert, and Crissa Johnson.

baby born in the area on June 1. Baby Alex Russell Lee Wag

pedal pull contest was held for
children outside Boscov’s store.
Children who pulled the tractor
the furtherest won a trophy.
Swineford Bank sponsored an
all-you-can-eat Scooper Bowl.
The public paid one price and
could eat ice cream all day long.
