NEHCA Hosts National
Bull Test Sale
William Lipsey
Drover Hill Farm
Earlville, N.Y.
The Northeast Highland
Cattle Association played host
to a record setting day for the
Highland breed. The first ever
AHCA Performance Tested Bull
Sale was held in conjunction
with our annual meeting, and it
was a rousing success. Highland
breeders from throughout the
Northeast and around the coun
try watched and bid as 19 bulls
averaged $2,194. Four bulls sold
for over $4,000 and two set a
new breed record of $7,000.
Ail the bulls in the sale had
“passed” the first AHCA Cen
tral Bull Test. Twenty-five bulls
were feed tested for 140 days.
They were weighed each month
and their average daily gain and
weight per day of age was calcu
lated. At the end of the test each
bull was measured for carcass
quality by ultrasound, for scrotal
circumference, height and
semen tested. The top 75% were
eligible for the sale.
