Veal Farm Visited
One of the tour stops included
Jeff and Kathy Rohrer’s new
veal calf production facility.
Jeff had been a relief milker
for dairy farmers and wanted to
have his own farming enterprise.
In March of 1998 the first calves
were placed in the new 220-foot
by 65-foot barn with capacity to
house 400 head in four divisions.
Each division is fdled at differ
ent times to extend the opportu
nities to purchase and market
the calves in various times of the
year.
Feed is mixed in 2,200-pound
capacity tanks and fed accord
ing to the nutritional needs of
each calf. Jeff is certified under
the veal quality assurance pro
gram and therefore is qualified
to administer medication and
maintain prpduction practices
that insure the best possible han
dling of the calves and produc
tion of veal.
Calves are taken in at 80 to
