PFGC—A Time To
(Continued from Pago 9)
your first opportunity to see this
publication Wednesday evening,
Aug. 16 (during Ag Progress Days),
when the council celebrates its 40
years of service to Pennsylvania’s
forage/livestock industry at our
annual picnic at Wayne Harpster’s
retreat along the majestic Spruce
Creek near Seven Stars, IVi miles
west of the Ag Progress Days site.
In addition to a brief look back
into the early history of grassland
agriculture in our state, this 120-
page book highlights many of the
great projects undertaken by the
council over the past 40 years,
which have contributed much to our
forage/livestock industries. These
include our educational hay and
silage programs, forage and Ag
Progress days, in-depth forage
workshops, our nationally recog
nized alfalfa growers program, and
our outstanding grassland farmers
program plus many others.
One of the goals of the council
from its beginning has been to iden
tify and recognize individuals
producers, scientists, teachers and
others— who have made outstand
ing contributions to some aspect of
forge and grassland improvement in
the state. In our publication we’ve
identified about 200 individuals,
mainly producers, who have been
recognized, and this does not in
clude the hundreds of outstanding
hay and silage producers recognized
in the past 40 years at our many
statewide and regional hay and
silage shows! We’ve also included
about 140 photos to help highlight
some of the activities and people
over the years. Even so, we know we
have missed many who deserve to be
recognized. For this we apologize.
We’d like to have as many as pos
sible of our award winners, and
former as well as present PFGC
