25.00 lower as the heavier singles sold
fairly well but the graded lightweights
fell sharply lower. Demand was im
proved for Holstein bulls returning to
feed with added buyers in the seats. Top
quality bull calves sold 20.00-40.00
higher and the Number 2 quality bulls
were as much as 70.00 higher. Holstein
heifers sold steady to 5.00 higher, but the
Number 2 heifers were discounted.
Supply included 540 head in the State
graded sale and 95 pet returned to feed.

CATTLE: Compared to Tuesday,
slaughter steers sold mostly firm with a
few fancy high Choice and Prime lots as
much as a LOO higher. Well finished
cattle have been in short supply of late
and buyers were aggressive for those
types, but average quality steers were
only moderately active. Holstein steer
prices were steady and slaughter heifers
were only lightly tested. Slaughter cows
sold fully .50 higher and slaughter bulls
remained active and traded 1.00 higher.
Supply included 43 pet slaughter steers
and 41 pet cows.

and top quality heifers sold firm to 40.00
higher. Supply included 506 in the State
graded sale and 95 pet returned to feed.

CALVES: Compared to last week,
veal calves closed firm to 7.00 higher and
the larger slaughter calves ended steady
to 10.00 higher. Holstein bulls returning
to special-fed veal barns sold 13.00
higher than last week’s close. The bull
calf market has stabilized at this level
and is much more predictable than it has
been for months. Holstein heifers turned
active late in the week and ended 20.00-
30.00 higher.
