CATTLE: Compared to Thursday; a
light test of slaughter steers, heifers, and
Holstein steers sold steady to weak.
Supply was light, but well rounded.
Slaughter cows were not well tested
and a thin test of slaughter bulls were
sharply higher. Supply included 46 per
cent slaughter steers and 10 percent
slaughter cows.

CATTLE; Compared to Thursday,
slaughter steers sold .50-1.00 lower. The
marketopened on the weak side Monday
and continued the lower level on Tues
day withno sign of a quick recovery.
However, the Holstein steers and
slaughterheifers on hand sold mostly
steady. Slaughter cow prices were steady
to weakcompared to Thursday’s active
market and slaughter bulls sold steady
in alight test. Supply included 54 pet
slaughter steers and 39 pet slaughter
cows.

CALVES: Compared to last week,
vealer prices were steady with good
demand. Although, demand was much
lighter for Holstein bulls returning to
feed.
Prices for Number 1 quality bulls were
60.00-65.00 lower with limited interest
from anyone other than the routine
order buyers. The Holstein heifer market
was near steady with last week. Supply
included 690 head in the State graded
sale and 94 percent returned to feed.

CATTLE: Compared to Tuesday,
slaughter steers sold steady. Trading
started slow on weak market conditions
but as buyers started to fill orders from
the moderate supply, prices held steady
with Tuesday’s lower market Holstein
steers sold steady, but slaughter heifers
were not frilly tested. Slaughter cows
continued active and sold .50-1.00
higher. Interest was very good for
slaughter bulls, especially for the one
that trampled through the crowd, and
prices were 1.00-2.00 higher. Supply in
cluded 46 percent slaughter steers and
39 percent slaughter cows.

CALVES: Compared to Monday’s
auction, vealer prices were weak and
slaughter calves sold near steady. The
demand for Holstein bulls to be placed in
special-fed veal bams continues to de
cline. Number 1 bulls sold 50.00-75.00
lower than Monday and as much as
110.00 lower than last Thursday. Hol
stein heifer prices also suffered, trending
20.00-30.00 lower. Supply included 418
in the State graded sale and 92 percent
returned to feed.

CATTLE: Compared to last week’s
dosing prices, slaughter steers closed .50
to 1.00 lower. Losses came early in the
week and then the market struggled to
hold the lower level feedlot areas
sold cattle 1.00 lower live and mostly
2.00 lower dressed from 69.00-69.50 and
109.00-110.00. Local Holstein steers
were active and managed to hold steady,
while a light offering of slaughter heifers
were also steady. This week’s biggest
story was the slaughter cow market,
which dosed firm to 1.00 higher than
last week’s higher prices. Local recdpts
were light as fanners took advantage of
nice weather, while further south cow
runs have dried up as pastures have re-
