Weekly Cattle Summary
Compared to last week: Feeder steers
and steer calves 1.00-3.00 higher. Feeder
heifers and heifer calves 2.00-4.00
higher. Demand good for all classes.
Corn futures closed lower as the so
called drought in the midwest never
materialized. Feeder buyers were look
ing to lower cost of gains as well as less
feeder numbers going thru the summer
months. Quality plain to average. Feeder
cattle in medium to fleshy conditions
with average to full weigh-ups. Slaugh
ter cows 2.00-2.50 higher. Slaughter
bulls 1.00 higher. Packer demand good.
Rains finally came to the drought
stricken south and farmers are now able
to hold some cows for summer grass.
Total of 315 cows and bulls sold with 45
percent to packers.
Receipts this week 8,700; last week
11,822; last year 12,950.
Supply consisted of 78 percent year
lings over 600 lbs; 18 percent calves
under 600 lbs; 4 percent cows and bulls.
Heifers comprised 38 percent of feeder
and calf supply.
Prices follow with weighted average
weight and price in parenthesis.
