Triple Championships For Bethany Moore WEST CHESTER (Chester Co.) Bethany Moore of Peachtree Lane, Landenberg, riding Indian Jane, was awarded three championships in the second Triangle Horse Show of the season at Grazing Acres in New London. Moore won the open equita tion, western, and pleasure horse division championships. Reserve championship of open equitation went to Sarah Shaffer of West Grove riding Low Down Louie. Reserve champion of the western division was Country Delight, shown by Shirley Craig of Brown Road, Nottingham. Country Delight and Cruising Bay, shown by Jessica Hinderer of Mackey Court, Landenberg, were tied in points and were joint reserve champions of the pleasure horse division. The division attracting the most entries was the pleasure pony division, with the baby green division (both divisions pay cash prizes) running a close second. (Leanne Buckley of Steelville Mill Road, Atglen, was the top money winner of the day). Pleasure pony champion at the June 4 show was Extremely Nosey, shown by Jenny Knauss. There was a tie for the reserve championship of this division, with reserve honors awarded to both Dixie, ridden by Leanne Buckley, and One Last Trick, ridden by Taylor Marcus of Street Road, West Grove. Marcus was also the champion of the mini division (for riders 10 and under) and moved up to be the champion of the beginner short stirrup division. Elliot, also ridden by Leanne Buckley, was the baby green champion, with the reserve championship going to Almosta Toy, ridden by Jessica Knox of Unionville. Knox, this time riding Chester, also won the junior medals class, a pattern class for advanced junior riders. Leadline champion was Christine Jameson of Chadds Ford, riding One Last Trick. Agri culture Secretary Dan Glickman named the building housing the National Agricultural Library as the Abraham Lincoln Building in honor of the president who es tablished the U.S. Department of Agriculture. “In 1862, President Abraham Lincoln and Congress estab lished the Department of Agri culture with a mandate to conduct experiments, gather seeds and plants, and collect in formation pertaining to agricul ture,” said Glickman. “Today, the National Agriculture Li brary is the public’s direct link to the world’s largest collection of agriculture information.” Lincoln proposed and signed into law an act of Congress es tablishing “at the seat of Gov ernment of the United States a Department of Agriculture.” Lincoln also signed the Home stead Act, granting Western horse, Eagles First Love. The mini mini division, for riders aged eight and under, had Ciara Danese as the champion. She rides Samira and lives on Thomas Farm Lane, Landen berg. USD A Proposes Fee Increase For Egg, Poultry, Rabbit Grading WASHINGTON, D.C. The USDA is proposing to increase fees for certain grading services for eggs, poultry, apd rabbits. “The increase would affect all processors who request egg, poultry, and rabbit grading ser vices,” said Kathleen A. Merri gan, administrator of USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service. “The fee increases are necessary to reduce operating lossds and maintain the fiscal stability of this important marketing pro gram.” The proposal would raise the basic hourly rate for resident service, or work of a grader with a regular tour of duty at a plant, from the current $28.80 to $29.96.
