St. Barnabas Day
St. Barnabas Day, on June 11, was traditionally the
time for the start of haying. The most favorable time
to cut hay, according to moonlore, is right after the
full Moon, on June 16 this year. St. Barnabas Day was
also when the churches were decorated
box, woodruff, lavender, and roses Thi
patron saint (along with St Francis of
Assisi) was commonly invoked as a
peacemaker or against hailstorms, as
was his near calendar neighbor, St
John the Baptist (June 24). St Barnabas
was a companion of St Paul and is oftei
depicted with him. Bearded and middle
aged, St. Barnabas generally carries an
olive branch or a book in his portraits.
On St. Barnabas, put the scythe to the grass.
ns- To boost your immunity and ward off hay fever attacks,
drink red clover tea.
