HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) The 37th All-American Dairy Show will feature out standing dairy cattle from across the United States, oppor tunities for youth to compete for scholarships and recognition, new educational events for the general public, and valuable dairy antiques. The show is held at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg on September 24 to September 28. The first-ever Meet a Cow Day will highlight Sunday. This brand new public event is de signed to attract city cousins to the Farm Show Complex for an afternoon with the dairy indus try and dairy foods education. This interactive program will allow urbanites a chance to pet a calf, smell and touch a Total Mixed Ration, see cows being milked, and learn about the dairy industry by talking with students from Delaware Valley College and Penn State Univer sity. The All-Dairy Antiques & Collectibles Show will open to the public on Saturday, the day before the official start of the show, for the benefit of exhibi tors and guests traveling from the Midwest and New England. Space for exhibiting at this first come, first served, no fees, dairy All American Announces 2000 Schedule antiques and collectible show is filling fast. It is a unique assem bly of great historical value, featuring everything from milk bottles, to butter chums and foot-powered cow clippers. It will open at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday and at 8:00 a.m. the rest of the week. Closing will be at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and Wednesday and at 5:00 p.m. on the other days. Interested exhibitors should contact the All-American Office now for more information re garding the opportunities to dis play or sell their items. Youth activities begin Sunday at 1:00 p.m. with the Youth Showmanship Contest in the Large Arena. Any youth can participate in this competition and tread on the tanbark of the Large Arena, by registering that morning. Later in the day, junior members of the Ayrshire, Jersey and Guernsey breeds meet for their annual fall mem bership meetings. The Careers and Opportuni ties Night Social starts at 7:00 p.m. and creates an atmosphere where youth can visit with rep resentatives of agricultural col leges in PA and surrounding states about post high school op tions. Parents and students are both encouraged to attend. The Junior Dairy Show Olympics round out the evening activities on Sunday. Games and contests are held in the Small Arena for the enjoyment of the young dairy cattle exhibitors. Monday, September 25, the Pennsylvania Junior Dairy Show starts promptly at 8 a.m. in the Large Arena. In another part of the Farm Show Com plex, the Invitational Youth Dairy Cattle Judging Contest will get under way, with over 16 states participate with their very best 4H, FFA and Collegiate teams competing in this premi er-judging event. Tuesday is the third full day of activities at the All American with the beginning of National show competitions. At 9:00 a.m. the Eastern National Ayrshire Show, and the Pennsylvania Fall Championship Holstein Show will fill the Large Arena. The in tense competition will continue all day and into the evening, with the Eastern National Milk ing Shorthorn Show parading into the Large Arena at 3:00 p.m. Youth competitions continue on Tuesday with the Junior Dairy Management Contest and the Pennsylvania 4H and FFA Judging Forum both beginning at 10:00 a.m. These contests bring over 500 youth to the Farm Show Complex to com pete for a scholarship, premium monies, and trophies. On Wednesday, the Large Arena will again be filled with classes of cattle as a National Guernsey Show and the All American Brown Swiss Show get under way at 9:00 a.m. Later that day, exhibitors and show supporters will gather to enjoy the Annual All-American Buffet. At this time several key leaders and volunteers of the All American Dairy Show will be recognized for their work to im prove the All American Dairy Show and to enhance its image as the premier dairy cattle show. The gavel will pound on the auction block at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, as the Eastern National Holstein Sale begins in the Small Arena of the Farm Show Complex. Thursday, September 28, will be the culmination of a week of class competitions. The Eastern National Holstein Show and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Jersey Show will start promptly at 8:00 a.m. in the Large Arena. After these two breed shows are com pleted, the All-American Dairy Show will host The Supreme Champion Pageant. At this time the John L. Morris Supreme Champion Blanket will be awarded to the very best animal in the show. The All-American Dairy Show is America’s oldest and best major dairy cattle show. This year the show will award over $124,000 in premiums, with milking cow class premiums starting at $3OO for first place. It has a rich history and tradition of exceptionally intense compe tition, yet the show is widely known for its generous hospital ity and excellent show facilities.
