Tri-Milchi!
The cows have gone out to the newly rich, green pas
tures, where the sun is on their backs. According to
Anglo-Saxons, this was the month of Tri-Milchi, or
three milkings. With spring bursting forth and the new
grasses so nutritious and tasty after the long months of
winter, cows were said to have been producing enough
so they could be milked three times a day at this season
Young maidens, too, went
out to the early morning
grass on May Day. The
May 1 dew was consid
ered a magical skin rejuve
nator with powers to counteract aging and bring good
luck. In Roman times, Floralia was celebrated now with
great revelry, gathering of blossoms, and feasting.
