Weekly Cattle Summary
Compared to last week; Feeder steers
steady to 1.00 lower Feeder belters
steady to 1.00 higher. Demand moderate
for feeder cattle, but improving some
late in the day. Stocker steers steady.
Stocker heifers 3.00-5.00 lower. Demand
good for Stockers. Quality average to at
tractive, end plain. Feeder cattle in mod
erate to fleshy conditions and this well
above last week on steers Some new
crop calves mixed in with thin short
yearling types. Weigh-ups gaunt to aver
age, few full.
Bulk supply feeder cattle off wheat.
This only the 2nd week of April and
today marks the beginning of the May
feeder cattle run This year’s mild winter
has advanced wheat growth by at least
two weeks with many crops in the boot
stage
Slaughter cows firm to 1 00 higher
Slaughter bulls 1.50 higher. Packer
demand good. Demand continues very
good for bred cows, pairs, and thin graz
ing cows to return to country Supply in
cluded many top quality bred cows and
pairs. Total of 550 cows and bulls sold
with 45 percent to packers Receipts this
week 14,400, last week 8,259; last year
15,601.
Supply consisted of 78 percent year
lings over 600 lbs, 18 percent calves and
short yearlings under 600 lbs; 4 percent
cows and bulls
Heifers comprised 39 percent of feeder
and calf supply.
Prices follow with weighted average
weight and price in parenthesis.
