CATTLE: Compared to Tuesday, a
good offering of slaughter steers and
heifers sold steady to .50 higher. The
sale started slow on mixed quality cattle,
but trading turned active on the good
bunches of well-finished cattle and
ended on a strong note. A very attractive
supply of Holstein steers traded firm to
1.00 higher. Slaughter cow trends were
mixed, fleshy cows sold unevenly steady
and the leaner types (over 85 pet lean)
traded .50-1.00 and instances 2.00
higher. Slaughter bull prices were 1.00

100.00 higher with sales topping at
272.00 cwt. After going through records
and talking to old-timers, I can confi
dently say these are the highest prices in
Lancaster County history and most
likely the highest prices paid for com
mercial Holstein baby bull farm calves
anytime and anywhere. Holstein heifers
were also active with prices firm to 10.00
higher. Supply included 308 head in the
State graded sale and over 99 percent
returned to feed.
VEALERS: Couple Standard and low
Good 60-70 lbs 20.00.
SLAUGHTER CALVES: Few Good
and Choice 200-350 lbs 80.00-100.00,
few 350-550 lbs 60.00-75.00.
RETURNED TO FARM: Holstein

some strength noted on weights under
