Perry County 4-H Dairy Club members recently recog*

Cumberland Co. Dairy Club
The 44th Annual Cumberland
County Dairy Club Banquet was
held at New Hope Church
Annex at 7 p.m. on Monday,
March 13. After the meeting was
called to order by President
Thomas Harwood and the group
was served dinner, the program
began.
Vice President Amy Kulick
gave the answers to the “Table
Fun” paper, and then Harwood
introduced the officers. He
called on Kathy Walton and
Sharon Hammond to present
awards and recognition to mem
bers and leaders.
Harwood then introduced
Scott Hodgson to present the
Outstanding First Year Member
Award, presented to Joe Arnold
and Mark Hammond. The
award was sponsored by
Cumberland Valley Coopera
tive.
Jerry Ogline presented the
Outstanding 4-H Member award
to Jason Nailor. The award was
sponsored by AgChoice Farm
Credit, ACA. Sallie Gregory
then presented the 4-H Achieve
ment Award to Zach Travis, and
Duane Duncan presented the
Merle Miller Memorial Award to
Sonya Rinker.
Once all of the awards were
presented, Kathy Walton read a
poem to the members’ parents to
thank them for their help
through the past year. Duncan
showed slides, which included
recent pictures of members and
older pictures of the members’
sisters, brothers, and parents.
The next meeting will be held
on April 10 at the Second Pres
byterian Church in Carlisle at
7:30 p.m.
Perry Co. Dairy Club
Perry County 4-H Dairy Club
members were recently recog
nized at the Perry County Hol
stein Club Banquet.
Members completing projects
lor 1999 were Matt Crouse, Tim
Crouse, Grctchen Haas, Joe
Haas, Eiica Kresge, Cole
McClaughlin, Amanda Myers.
Tyler Myers, Darryl Myers.
Amber Rock, Amanda Rock,
Matt Schoenfelt, and Brett Shel
ley. The members received pins
and certificates for their work.
Five members were rewarded
for the outstanding job they did
in completing their project
books. The junior division was
won by Erica Kresge, daughter
of Lenard and Amy Kresge of
Loysville. Gretchen Haas re
ceived second place. Her parents
are Gary and Lucinda Haas of
Millerstown.
Amanda Myers of Millers
town had the high score in the
senior division. She is the
daughter of Earl and Linda
Myers. There was a tie for
second place between Cole
McLaughlin, son of Dave and
Patti McLaughlin of Elliotsburg,
and Matt Crouse, son of Terry
and Stephanie Crouse of New
port.
Deckertown 4-H Club
The Deckertown 4-H Club
held its first meeting on Febru
ary 5. The new officers are
Jaimie Himka, president; Ben
Schack, vice president; Nancy
Acker, secretary; Meggie Klees,
treasurer; and Elaine Mackey,
news reporter. The club planned
meetings, community service,
and activities for the upcoming
year. They also did project en
rollment. After the meeting, club
members enjoyed sleigh riding.
Susquehanna County 4-H
The North Jackson Ag held
its first meeting of 2000 at the
Carey’s home on March 5. New
officers elected during the meet
ing included Abby Onyon, presi
dent; Beth Giangrieco, vice
president; Katie Onyon, secre
tary; Tim Carey, treasurer;
Eileen Walker, news reporter;
Jessica Sartell and Chelsey
Saam, historian; and Holly
Carey, Daniel Gow, and Aaron
Onyon, song and game leaders.
After the election of officers,
enrollment forms were com
pleted and upcoming events
were discussed. The next meet
ing will be held April 1 with
bowling at Valley Lanes and
pizza at the Onyon’s after bowl
ing.
A new Harford area commu
nity 4-H club, Creatures and
Creations, held their meeting
with five members present.
Members practiced their archery
skills, then elected club officers.
New officers include Tim
Graf, president; Karl McDon
ald, vice president; Patricia Al
brecht, secretary; and Eli
Wilson, treasurer. The group
discussed dues, fundraisers, and
community service projects
during the meeting.
Franklin Co. Dairy
The annual Franklin County
Dairy Calf Sale will be held on
Saturday, April 15, at 7 p.m.
The sale will be held at the C.V.
Antique Engine Show Grounds
in Chambersburg. Take Route
30 West from Chambersburg for
five miles to Twin Bridge Road.
Turn right onto Twin Bridge
Road and proceed for approxi
mately 1.5 miles. Bear left at the
Twin Bridge Campground office
onto Criders Church Road and
proceed a short distance to
Peckman Drive. Turn left onto
Peckman Drive and the show
grounds entrance will be on your
left.
The sale, which is open to the
public, will feature approxi
mately twenty calves and ten
embryos. Franklin County 4-H
Dairy Council sponsors the sale
with the commission fees going
to support 4-H Dairy Club edu
cational activities in the county.

Lancaster County Clubs
The Lancaster County 4-H
Horse Production Club will have
its organizational meeeting on
Monday, April 10, in the base
ment of the Farm and Home
Center, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Northampton Butterfly Club

on Sunday, May 7, at 2 p.m. at
Lisa Beltz’ house, 3415 Moun
tain View Drive in Danielsville.
Anyone between the ages of 8
and 18 is welcome to join. Please

Lackawanna Co. 4-H Club
Lackawanna County 4-Hers
will be celebrating Pennsylvania
4-H week on March 24 and 25 at
the Viewmont Mall in Dickson
City. Members will be displaying
completed projects and present
ing demonstrations on a variety
of topics such as sewing, cook
ing, and gardening. Ribbon
cuttin ceremonies will kick off
the event at 4 p.m. on the 24.
In Lackawanna County,
nearly 4,000 youth and 230
adult volunteers are involved in
4-H programs. For more infor

Susquehanna Co. 4-H Club
The Sizzlin’ Steaks 4-H club
met at Bill and Judy Mitchell’s
house on February 27. After
pledges were led by Brad Fisher
and Christina Zick, the club an
nouced that it would pay for its
share of the work being done at
the beef barn. The club also re
quested 4-Hers with beef proj
ects to obtain trophy sponsors.
Other annoucements were: Beef
will not be fitted in the ring this
year, beef projects will be doing
rate of gain, and a livestock
clinic will be held in July. The
club anounced its next meeting
on April 30 at the Mitchells.
Wayne Co. 4-H Clubs
If you have heard of 4-H, you
are probably thinking animals
and cooking. But Wayne
County wants everyone 4o know
that 4-H is more than you ever
imagined.
The Wayne County 4-H pro
gram will sponsor an informal
meeting on Wednesday evening,

575 children participating.

proach encouraged with 4-H ex
poses youngsters to new
experiences and responsibilities.
Wayne County 4-H invites
anyone interested in 4-H to
attend the informal meeting.
The Wayne County 4-H pro
gram will also hold their second
annual “4-H at the Mall” event
on Saturday, March 18. This
public educational display pro
moting the nationally renown 4-
H youth program is open to the
public on the 18 from 12 noon to
2 p.m. at the “Fun ‘N Games”
Pizza Hut Complex. There is no
charge to attend this event.
