CATTLE Compared to Thursday, a
modest run of slaughter steers, heifers and
Holstein steers all sold mostly
steady Some weakness was evident during
the trading, but price ranges were fairly
consistent with late last week A thin test
of slaughter cows sold firm and slaughter

CATTLE Compared to Thursday, a
good offering of slaughter steers and
heifers sold weak to 50 and instances
100 lower The heaviest losses were
quoted midway through the auction, as
early and late sales were only slightly
lower Holstein steers sold mostly
steady Slaughter cows were very active
and traded 50 to mostly 100 higher,
while slaughter bull prices were 100
higher Receipts included near 250 head
of fresh feeder cattle for Monday
afternoon's special Weighing conditions
were mostly in the buyer's favor and
demand was very good for all classes of
feeder cattle Total supply was made up of
39 percent slaughter steers and 33 percent
slaughter cows

weight calves returned to feed Holstein
bulls suitable for special-fed veal bams

included 610 head in the State graded
sale and 96 percent returned to feed.

good market but also caused premiums
to be lighter. Holstein steers traded
mostly .50 higher, and slaughter heifers
were not well tested. Slaughter cows sold
firm to .50 higher, while slaughter bull
prices were 1.00-2.00 higher in active
trading. Supply included 39 percent
slaughter steers and 42 percent slaugh
ter cows.

CALVES: There were not enough
veal calves sold during Monday’s auc
tion for a good comparison, but today’s
veal market was active and prices were
the highest paid all week. Larger slaugh
ter calves were scarce. The market for
Holstein bull calves returning to feed
was mostly steady, but has faded consid
erably from midweek. Holstein heifer
calves traded 25.00-30.00 higher in
active trading. Supply included 369
head in the State graded sale and 93 per
cent returned to feed.
