ly Cattle Summary
Compared to last week: Feeder steers
steady to 1.00 lower, except 9 weights ZOO
lower. Feeder heifers steady. Demand only
moderate for feeders despite last week’s
2.00 upward move in fat cattle along with
continued strength in cut-out values.
Weakness in feeder cattle a function of dis
counted summer CME slaughter cattle val
ues. Stocker cattle and calves 1.00-ZOO
higher. Demand extremely good for graz
ing cattle with most in medium to mostly
thin conditions. Quality mostly average.
Feeder cattle conditions were highly varied
in flesh and wdgh-ups. Flesh conditions
slightly thin to fleshy and wdgh-ups of
gaunt to average, some full. Slaughter
cows 2.00-2.50 higher. Slaughter bulls
3.00 higher. Packer demand good. Demand
continues very good for cows, including
aged cows, returning to the country leaving
packets to struggle for numbers. Cows and
bulls totaled 545 head with 40 percent to
packers. Receipts this week 10,400; last
week 12,456; last year 5,609. Supply con
sisted of 80 percent yearlings over 600 lbs;
15 percent calves and light yearlings under
600 lbs; 5 percent cows and bulls. Heifers
comprised 35 percent of feeder and calf
supply. Prices follow with wdghted aver
age wdght and price in parenthesis.
