Council Launches Website
NAPERVILLE, 111.-The Na
tional Farm-City Council an
nounces a Website at
www.farmcity.org that will be
used to highlight its national ac
tivities as well as those of local
and state Farm-City organiza
tions.
“The mission of the council is
to promote understanding and
increase cooperation between
rural and urban residents, and
the Web offers us great opportu
nity to communicate with both
of those sectors,” said Council
Chairman Gene Hemphill.
“The council will once again
be promoting a National Farm-
City event that will draw major
media attention to Farm-City
Week, which traditionally is the
seven days leading up to and in
cluding Thanksgiving. This has

been the focus of activities for
the organization,” he said. The
group is exploring a special, na
tionally-publicized program in
Chicago in early November. In
addition to the Council, this will
include a coalition of agricultur
ally-based organizations as well
as civic and urban officials and
city residents.
“We truly want to bridge
farm and city,‘ Hemphill said.
“The typical American has
become so far removed from our
country’s agrarian heritage that
they no longer understand how
intricately entwined farm-city
relations are. Having the Web
site provides us the opportunity
to reach out across the country
to increase cooperation and so
lidify relations between rural
and urban residents,” Hemphill
said.
