Attend Farm Family Safety Day LOU ANN GOOD Lancaster Farming Staff LANCASTER (Lancaster Co.) Kids, did you know that you are the most valuable re source your parents have? Their most valuable resource is not their farm, the soil, the big barns or the whole herd of cows but you. Growing up on the farm gives you many opportunities to have fun that children off the farm don’t have. Unfortunately, farming is also the most danger ous occupation. It’s the place where you play. In the United States, about 104 children die annually from unintentional farm injuries and many more are hurt. In fact for each two children that die, 40 more are admitted to hospitals to treat farm injuries. You don’t want this to happen. Your parents don’t want this to happen. A lot of doctors, nurses, and other con cerned people want to make the farm a safer place for children. They aren’t telling your par ents how to run their farms or that children shouldn’t be help ing on the farm. But they want to share some tips on how to pre vent injuries and preserve you their most valuable resource.
