Holstein Associations Honors Progressive Breeders and Genetic Herd
CARLISLE (Cumberland
Co.) The Pennsylvania Hol
stein Association honored mem
bers and special guests during
its annual awards breakfast held
two weeks ago.
During the breakfast, the as
sociation also recognized mem
bership solicitors.
James Houser from Centre
County was recognized as the
individual who has done the
most outstanding work in mem
bership solicitation. Lehigh and
McKean County clubs were also
recognized for reaching their
2000 membership goals. Both
clubs received a $2OO cash
award for their efforts.
Sixty-seven members were
honored with the prestigious
Progressive Breeder Registry
Award. The requirements for
this award are that the herd
owner must be a member of both
the national and state associa
tion and be enrolled in the
Deluxe or Premium TriStar ser
vice options and herd classifica
tion programs.

a Traditional “Afternoon Tea”
CARLISLE (Cumberland
Co.)-The ladies of the Pennsyl
vania Holstein Association expe
rienced a tradition boasting with
history at The Carlisle House on
Friday during the annual con
vention. The tradition experi
enced by the Ladies and Guests
dates back to times prior to the

TEA.
In keeping with this timeless
tradition, “The Red Rose with
Chocolates,” a Victorian after
noon tea was held. Linda Ewing
of the Carlisle House, along with
event chairperson, Patti Hushon
of Airville, York County, began
the task of preparing for this
event. Upon arrival at the “Af
ternoon Tea,” each lady was
given a red rose and a special
bar of chocolate. The afternoon
tea began with the serving of tea
and tea scones. Next would be
the sandwiches, and finally the
refreshing of the tea along with
the cakes and special delights.
In the tradition of wearing the
long tea gowns and special fash
ions, the Gatsby Boutique, along
with owners Rhonda Flickinger
and Brianna Sellers gave a
Fashion Revue of the clothing
found in their shoppe in down
town Hanover. The Gatsby
Boutique offers a unique line of
handmade ladies’ clothing.
To add to the pleasure of the
afternoon, the Pennsylvania
Dairy Princesses were the
models for the event. The State
Dairy Princess Lori Connelly
and her court, Amanda Gilkin
son and Becky Kilgore, pre
sented the unique line of
clothing for the ladies’ pleasure.
Outfits from all lines of clothing
offered at the Gatsby Boutique
were modeled, and the fashion
show concluded with a formal
gown showing by Lori. The
ladies enjoyed the beautiful
fashions and the company of the
state dairy princesses.
With the help of sponsors,
seven Victorian Gift Boxes filled
with lovely items including of
course, varieties of tea were
awarded as door prizes. The
imately 10 percent of the herds
enrolled in the Deluze or Pre
mier TriStar service options.
Keyston Farms from Easton re
ceived the award for the 42nd
time this year, while 11 breeders
were first time winners of the
award.
Sixty-seven members recog
nized for receiving the Progres
sive Genetics Herd Award. The
award is awarded to the top 500
herds with the highest average
TPI of all females in the herd,
both young and mature. Herd
owners must be members of both
the national and state associa
tions. They also must be enrolled
in the Deluxe or Premier TriStar
service options and herd classifi
cation programs.
The association presented
special awards to farm editors
who have supported the club
over the years. Robert Rumler,
who recently retired from Hol
stein USA, Inc., was also recog
nized during the breakfast
meeting.
