Lupercalia?
By some theories, our modern-day Valentine’s Day
celebrations may date back to a pagan Roman festi
val called Lupercalia. This fertility ritual was cus
tomarily commemorated on February 15. Lupercal was
the site where Romulus and Remus were suckled by the
wolf, according to legend, and it was at this place that
the annual Lupercalia was staged, in honor of Lupercus,
the pastoral fertility god and patron of
flocks. The Latin lupus means
Valentine’s Day, watch out
for wolves in sheep’s clothing,
and consider adding some

Stuffed Pork Chops
8 pork chops, 1/2 inch thick
1 large onion, chopped
2 tablespoon* olive oil
2 cups seasoned croutons
2 cups chopped apples
1/3 cup raisins
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon sage
Sear pork chops and set
aside. Sautd onion in
olive oil, then stir in
remaining stuffing ingre
dients and seasonings.
Cook until warm. Place
4 pork chops into the
