CATTLE: Compared to last week’s
closing prices, slaughter steers closed
1.00- 1.50 lower. The market moved
progressively lower this week and never
found support, with the weakest point
coming late in Thursday’s offering. Re
ceipts returned to normal this week
after two weeks of winter weather
slowed marketings. Nebraska fcedlots
sold cattle mostly steady to 1.00 lower at
69.00 and 108.00-109.00 dressed, but the
High Plains had yet to trade their showl
ists by Friday morning. A good test of
local Holstein steers sold fully 1.00 lower
and slaughter heifer sales were mostly
weak, with the exception of a fancy of-

fering that sold 1.00-2.00 higher at Lan
caster on Monday. Slaughter cow prices
turned sharply lower this week, after
last week’s highs, and closed 2.00-2.50
lower. Slaughter bulls ended mostly
steady after trading sharply higher
early in the week. Supply included 35
percent slaughter steers, 9 percent
slaughter heifers, 41 percent slaughter
cows, 4 percent bulls, with the balance
feeders.
