AM-Unc—ter Farming, Saturday, February 5, 2000 Consumption of Dairy Products Land O Lakes Annual Meeting HARRISBURG, Pa. (Dauphin Co.)-Dairy farmers are entering the new millennium with great news. The dairy promotion checkoff program was started in 1984 with one purpose in mind -to increase the demand for dairy products-and it’s doing just that! According to the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program, total milk sales have increased by 29 percent since 1984. Per capita consumption of all dairy products has risen by 11.5 percent-that’s an increase of 72 pounds more dairy prod ucts per person. And total milk sold has exceeded USDA projec tions by more than 225 billion pounds of milk! Dairy farmers invest 15 cents for every 100 pounds of milk they sell to fund generic adver tising, marketing, promotion, and nutrition education pro grams for milk and milk prod ucts. The award-winning “got milk?” advertising campaign continues to urge consumers to drink milk, as well as remind consumers about milk’s nutri- BUY, SELL, TRADE OR RENT THROUGH THE CLASSIFIED ADS IN Lancaster Farming PHONE 717-626-1164 OR 717-394-3047 FAX 717-733-6058 Mon., Tues., Wed., Fri. 8 AM to 5 PM Thurs. 7 AM to 5 PM s* tional benefits. The partnership between dairy farmers and dairy processors has proven to work well as fluid milk advertising will reach all ages through print, outdoor and TV outlets in 2000. Dairy promotion dollars are funding a strong school food ser vice marketing program. Locally, PDPP contracts with the American Dairy Association & Dairy Council Mid East to conduct programs such as “Operation COLD Milk.” This program will provide 1,800 milk coolers to schools throughout the ADADC Mid East Region to improve milk’s temperature, taste and image in schools. A strong chocolate milk promotion rounds out school food service efforts. Help Spread the News Communicating these mes sages to farmers is vital to the dairy industry. Representatives of PDPP are available to speak about the dairy checkoff pro gram and how dairy farmer investments are being used. HONEY BROOK FIRE CO.
