CATTLE: Compared to Tuesday,
slaughter steers and heifers opened .50
higher but faded back to mostly steady
by sale’s end. Strength was based on the
short supply of high quality black steers.
The speed of the sale was sluggish, again
this week, which hampered trading. A
good test of Holstein steers sold fully
steady. Slaughter cows were active and
mostly steady to .50 higher, while
slaughter bulls sold steady to 1.00
higher. Supply included 30 percent
slaughter steers and 58 percent slaugh
ter cows.
