    John and Thelma Kitner of Dillsburg were the winners
of the ice cream maker that Lancaster Farming gave
away at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. The Kitners own a
22-acre farm where they have steers, hogs, and roo
sters. Both John and Thelma drive school bus for North
ern York School District. John is also a self-employed
electrician.

The morning session begins with
milk, coffee and donuts courtesy
of Oenex/CRI at 9:30 ajn.
The spread of Johnc’s disease is
one of the most serious health
threats to dairy producers in recent
years. The tendency of the disease
to exist in a herd for years before
diagnosis makes it especially chal
lenging to manage. Dr. David
Wolfgang from Perm State’s Vet
erinary Science Department will
update producers on practical tips
for Johne’s control and manage
ment He will provide information
about Pennsylvania’s Johnc’s cer
tification program and its use in
your herd.
Extension agent Tim Beck will
provide a brief discussion of
important biosccurity manage
ment practices that should be part
of your regular dairy management
routine. Preventive measures are
always prefered over trying to treat
a disease already in progress, so
